Message: Rooies (contribution 330) my friend I think you have read to many grensvegter boekies. I can hardly believe that you took part in OPS PROTEA. Your force number is 84456995, but OPS PROTEA started on 23 August 1981 and ended on the 4 September 1981. I should know, because I did my time with SAW en Seuns from Jan 81 to Dec 82

Message: Love this site. Served in the Marines 1989-1990. Would love to hear from anyone. Thanks for not letting the world forget what so many were never even aware of. My older brother Sean also served in the Marines 1981-1982 and saw action in SWA and Angola. To this day there are things about this war he wishes he could forget. Thanks again!

Message: 74436676KT - S.A. Engineering Corp and SAI. Reading all the messages on this site has taken me back 20 odd years! Although it was an awesome experience, God I hope that we never forget these experiences and that our children never have to go through what we went through especially once we were married and had families that we had to leave behind every time we did a camp. Please keep this site running its so good to revisit it once in a while.

Message: 79342135BG - 1982 - 1983. Did Basics in 4SAI Middelburg and then off to Infantery Skool Oudshoorn, Charlie Company - what a year, but it prepared us well for the next year! Looking for my old buddy Gerrit Otto. Second year served with 203 Battalion (Bushmans) having our Base at Nhoma during 1983. Operated in Sector 20 mostly on the 17.30 and 18 Degree "kaplyne" to cover the infiltration routes. Ops Bases were Nepara and Mpungu Vlei. Petrus Germishuys (384) and Kobus Le grange (306) please e-mail me as I would like to share experiences of 203 Battalion. These two years are still constantly in my mind and over the years all the bad experiences have faded and only the good ones remain. Well done to all the other boys!

Message: I happened to come along this site while looking for pictures for my son in Gr. 4, who is doing a speech on his role model "SOLDIERS". It brings back a lot of memories for me because my 3 brothers were in the SADF and so was my husband all those years ago. It was sad times for the family to see their loved ones going off to fight to protect them. To all the men (and women) who did it back in those years, THANK YOU FOR LOOKING AFTER ME AND MY FAMILY. I WAS AND STILL AM PROUD OF YOU ALL!

Message: Great site which brings back many memories (6SAI 07/85 - 07/87 - B Coy). Most of my intake were naturalised immigrants. Can anyone tell me when the act for naturalisation for 18 - 25 year olds became law and were you given a naturalisation certificate?

Message: What a great site and also brings back many memories of those "Army Days". I did basics at 1 Maintenance Unit in Kimberley in Jan 1983 then did border duty at Sector 20 HQ from June 83 - Dec 84. I then joined permanent force in 1986 and served in the Ammunition Corps until Jan 1996 when I resigned and went to America. I was part of a contingent of guys who went to clear up all the left over ammo in Grootfontein between Feb and April 1989. Then again in Walvis Bay in Aug 1993. I did JL's at the School Of Artillery in 1989 from May till Nov 89. If anyone remembers those days please contact me. Thanks for a great site. I have a story at "Sentinel Projects.
