Message: How can we ever forget? I saw the best and worst of humanity. Too bad many of the Afrikaaners were still fighting the Boer War, and hated us Engelsmanne, so I left and came to the USA, and made my life here in Florida. Post traumatic stress is real.... I live it everyday! I miss ZA, and my close friends from those days.

Message: Thanks for a great website. I served in the old SADF from 1983 (Oudtshoorn) to 1984 (operasional) as a luitenant in the Infantry Corps. It has been my desire for some time now to start a National Organisation namely the SA Bush War Veterans, to commemorate our fallen hero's, we owe it to them. Lets hear the truth from us, the unsung hero's who served in the best, non-conventional army in the world. Looking forward to hear from anyone who shares my vision. Thanks for the opportunity.

Message: National Service changed a generation of South Africans - some because they served 9 or 12 or 24 months, others because they were family and others because they were part of a system which supported or resisted national service and conflict / suppression. My two years '78 (1 Maintenance Unit, Service School and DHQ) and '79 (AFHQ) as a weerman, 2Lt ant LT, took me to many airforce bases in SA SWA and ops areas. Like others, a tremendously formative experience, still with me 27 years later, living in Mauritius. A great site, needs more links to encourage sharing of experiences.

Message: Good sight. I'm very interested. I think not too much general information about war, for people who wasn't engaged but just are interested in. I consider the fate of South Africa is like USSR fate after democratization. With respect.

Message: Intake 1 SAI 1972 and Dbn Regt SWA SPEC COINOPS until 1978 - Love the pics on the site -- THEY LOOK REALLY GOOD -- I totally go along with your comment that we were the original oumanne, thank you for saying that. It means a lot to us guys, who went out into the unknown in the early days, left out in the bush to get on with it with FN's / R1's, basic kit, the old type staaldak & equipment, lots of ammo and grenades, some flares, lots of water bottles, and just a small radio to contact base with.

Message: Glad I found this site. Was called up in 1980, after university, to Oudtshoorn. Declared G4K4 due to an allergy I then had, and assigned to Civic Action as a teacher in my home province (then Natal). Wonder if anyone can help me locate the site of the Duncan camp near Jan Kempdorp, where I spent three wasted weeks before going down to Natal. Does anyone have any memories of Duncan? Have lived now for almost two decades in Switzerland, and would be keen to contact ex-SADF guys by e-mail, who were in Oudtshoorn and/or Jan Kempdorp/Duncan in the early 80's.
