Message: Great to see a lot of 5 SAI members logging in. Yes Rooibaard is a legend and a first class soldier. Bigfoot is also a name which gave us a lot to talk and debate about while on patrol. Other names from 5 SAI (1980 to 1982) are Capt Van Lill, Commandant Harris alias JOCK PROMISES, Cpl Fandarro

Message: Recognition at last! What a great web site! I served in the SP Wag from 1985-1987 although I never went to the border area we served in the townships of Alexandra and Soweto. Lost a few great mates during my two years. A lot of boys served in the townships basically the real frontline at home during those turbulent times. Maybe you can dedicate a section to the township conflicts of the times? Keep up the excellent work. Lest we forget....

Message: Thanks for the site. I respect any fellow South African that served on the border. Even though I missed the conscription, things have changed in South Africa and people around the world don't know your side of the story. I for one will never forget their sacrifices and am eternally grateful.

Message: Hi all, I think this web site is great. I am looking for anyone from Cape Town who did their national service at 8 SAI 1993. Especially Froxtrot Comp (Basics) and Charlie Company (Riemvasmaak). I have served in a couple of units since then and am still serving. But have never forgotten 8 SAI. "Come to 8 SAI. Come to 8 SAI. Its the place for you and me. There's a sign board at the entrance saying welcome unto thee" Remember that song? Well guys keep it real!
